A Disneyland trip doesn't have to be all Disneyland. Some of the most memorable nights in Orange County happen just a short drive from the parks, whether that's cheering on a knight at a medieval joust or watching pirates battle it out over an indoor lagoon.
Here are our favorite ways to spend an evening, or a day off from the parks, close to Desert Palms.
What are the best dinner shows near Disneyland?
Two of the most popular dinner shows in Southern California sit right next to each other on Beach Boulevard in Buena Park, about five miles from Disneyland.
Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
Medieval Times takes you back to an 11th-century castle for a night of knights, horses, and royal competition. Six knights on horseback face off in jousting and sword fights, with falconry and horsemanship woven into the story, and every section of the arena gets its own knight to cheer for.
Dinner is a four-course feast served during the show, and in true medieval fashion, you eat it with your hands. Arrive early to explore the castle, located at 7662 Beach Blvd in Buena Park, and catch some pre-show photo opportunities before the tournament begins.
Pirates Dinner Adventure
Just down the street, Pirates Dinner Adventure sets its show on a full-size replica of an 18th-century Spanish galleon, complete with 40-foot masts, anchored in a 250,000-gallon indoor lagoon. Guests are seated in one of six "ships" around the water, each with its own pirate to cheer for.
Expect sword fights, acrobatics, cannon blasts, and plenty of audience participation, with kids invited to join in on the adventure. Dinner is served during the show, just down the street at 7600 Beach Blvd.
Medieval Times or Pirates Dinner Adventure: which should you choose?
Both are family-friendly and make for a great night out. The main difference is the vibe.
Choose Medieval Times if you love horses, jousting, and a classic tournament-style show, and you're up for eating your dinner without utensils.
Choose Pirates Dinner Adventure if your crew wants more interaction, especially younger kids who like being part of the action.
Can't decide? They're so close together that plenty of families come back on another trip to see the other.
